Mischievous Baby

Don't let these beautiful eyes fool you...oh yes, with a bat of those gorgeous lashes she will put you in a trance and you will forget all the trouble she gets into. Say what you want such as "she's a baby, that's what they do" or "typical toddler" but Kate gets what she wants, does what she wants and when she wants. Nobody gets in her way. Kate definitely has a stubborn streak that I swear is not from MY side of the family.

Me: "Kate, give me your sip cup it's bath time." Kate, "No no no no no no". Kate wins, Mommy loses.

Me: washing dishes. Kate: got into my closet and took out my bags. dragged her laundry basket from her room. got into the pantry and decided to play with cups. I guess I should keep a closer eye on her, oh well. Kate wins. Mommy loses.

Me: taking photos, of course. Kate: trying each cup, that she got from the pantry, because one of these cups has to work to get the water out from the fridge!

And on the Seventh Day...

I think I can say that it is official...Kate is off the bottle! Yesterday was her first day without any bottles. I must admit that I think the process was more difficult for me than it was for Kate. I love routines and structure so to have this out of the routine unnerved me a bit. But, it was easier than I thought. We made it through. Next summer...potty training!

Day 5 of Bottle Weaning

I am hoping that today is Kate's last day of the bottle. We have gone 4 days with only 2 bottles having eliminated the evening one. Today was the first day with no morning bottle. I am going to inform the sitter that there will be no bottles in the diaper bag starting on Monday ~ yay! Kate is staying at her nana and papa's Saturday so that will be a challenge. I must stress to them how hard we have been working on this and not to screw it up! As Dora says, "We did it, we did it, we did it, hooray!" Well, we will see...keep posted for the outcome of this.

Day 1 of bottle weaning

So far so good ~ I am SO going to jinx myself! Kate had 2 bottles today. A morning while with me and another while with the sitter. Hopefully she ate enough today that she will not wake in the middle of the night. Chris said he does not want her to cry all night long. I reminded him that this would probably be the toughest week. We must be STRONG!

Eeny, meeny, miny, moe...

Once again we are going to try to wean Kate off of the bottle. I am going to have a lot of help this time, her sitter Lori ~ PHEW! Lori prefers the sip cups with the hard spouts whereas I think Kate likes the soft ones. However, the young kids around Kate's age all use the hard sip cups so I am going to listen to the very experienced sitter! The plan is to slowly wean her off. Even the sitter said it is going to be a challenge with Kate. She did inform me very confidently that Kate would be off by mid-August ~ so we are very excited. Why this is such a big deal to us? I don't know? Chris and I don't want THAT kid who still walks around with a bottle at age 2. She usually takes anywhere from 4-5 bottles per day. Yesterday she only had three. The morning and before bedtime bottles are going to be the most difficult to cut. For Kate it is definitely the comfort and routine that she will miss. For us it is convenient to stick a bottle in her mouth to pacify her. This is always a conversation in our house and we are very intimated by this whole process. I have several friends (and a particular grandma) who tell me not to worry about. Some advice is "they will let go of the bottle in their own time"; "she is just a baby"; "what's the big deal"; "anywhere before prom"...but, Kate's pediatrician recommended at 12 months to completely stop. My sister-in-law said to do it cold turkey like she did with her kids. I just get so overwhelmed by this whole process and I am grateful that I am going to have help this time around ~ support is more like it!

Below is a picture of Kate sampling her new sip cups...

"Eeny, meeny, miny, moe
My mother told me to pick the very best one,
And that is Y-O-U"

She was so excited about these sip cups. I have actually never seen her so excited about a toy or book as she was with the sip cups. Perhaps she saw the kids at the sitter with these cups and she was happy she finally had her own (or three). She would not let me take them from her, she kept dropping them and trying to keep them all close to her and sampling all that was in them.
